Academy Teacher and Vocal Coach
Carly Owen-Wailes
I started singing from as soon as I could talk (or maybe I sung first). I grew up in Bangor, North Wales, a country passionate for singing, where my true passion for singing thrived. I was lucky to be surrounded by such talent, musicality and the opportunities I had.
I eventually started my training at the age of sixteen at Redroofs Theatre School - and soon after I joined a girl band called "Red Blooded Women" an electro-pop girl group touring the UK and overseas. I then continued my training in Musical Theatre at Montview Academy of Theatre Arts in London graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma. Upon graduating I was offered a Lead Vocalist contract with Royal Caribbean International Cruises.
My singing career changed in my mid-twenties when I decided to continue training my voice classically, which led me to study at the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio, London.
I then moved to Germany to be the Lead Soprano at the Theater und Orchestra Heidelberg for two years, singing many operatic leading roles: Gilda (Rigoletto), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Hannah Glawari (The Merry Widow), Ilia (Idomeneo), Marzelline (Fidelio).
While in Germany I met my Australian husband and now we are settled in Victoria.
I have had a varied international career working within many genres of music and now is the time for me to share this knowledge.
As a vocal coach and teacher, I believe that it is fundamental to have a solid technique, no matter what genre, as this is the springboard into singing successfully long term with ease, enjoyment and maintaining good vocal health. I can help bring out that inner performer in you and give you all the tools to keep your audiences engaged! I am passionate that my lessons be fun and informative for all ages.
